Currently Available Positions:

Human Resources Manager (Full Time)

GLTC has an opening for a Full Time Human Resources Manager.  This position reports directly to the General Manager.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Maintains human resource staff by recruiting. selecting, and orienting employees to fill vacant positions.
  2. Oversees, administers, and ensure compliance with the organizations Title VI, DOT Drug and Alcohol and EEO Programs.
  3. Maintains human resource records using a filing and retrieval system; keeping past and current records.
  4. Maintains employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits; recommends benefit programs to management; directs the processing of benefit claims; designing and conducting educational programs on benefit programs
  5. Administer responses to Union Grievances and ensures company compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  6. Assists the General Manager in negotiation of Labor Contract and the development of the personnel budget.
  7. Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigation; maintaining records.
  8. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  9. Cooperatively and efficiently preforms other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a Related field with 5 Years of Human Resource Experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Human Resource laws and regulations
  • Strong written/verbal communication sills
  • Ability to deal tactfully and confidently with internal and external customers
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations
  • Strong computer skill – emphasis in excel
  • Professional Human Resources certification: SPHR, PHR, SHRM strongly preferred.

Utility Supervisor

GLTC has an opening for a Full Time Utility Supervisor. Act as GLTC’s frontline leader in monitoring and directing performance to achieve established quality standards in the management and administration of infrastructure maintenance, special projects, facility and revenue vehicle cleanliness.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Monitors and directs utility workers, permanent and temporary, to facilitate thorough and efficient work.
  2. Analyzes work flow and recommends changes as needed.
  3. Regularly monitors Utility Workers appearance; reinforces performance expectations; gives instructions; offers positive recognition for meeting or exceeding expectations; coaches to improve skills, issues violations if warranted.
  4. Regularly inspects cleanliness of facilities and revenue vehicles.
  5. Produces and maintains an inventory of current bus stops and shelters.  Manages sign replacement and sign/shelter upkeep.
  6. Acts as the direct communication link between the Utility Crew and Maintenance Manager.
  7. Takes inventory of facility and revenue vehicle cleaning supplies monthly and reports to Maintenance Manager what supplies need to be ordered for the upcoming month.
  8. Manages other duties and special projects as required.
  9. Treats all information in a confidential manner, diligent to the privacy of all employees of GLTC.
  10. Cooperatively and efficiently performs related tasks and duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Eye for detail
  • Experience in a labor/union environment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to include providing guidance and instruction to subordinates.
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Virginia Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Ability to make independent decisions within scope of responsibility.
  • Excellent employee motivation skills are a must.
  • Working knowledge of computer software programs (Including: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)

Emotional, Psychological and Physical Requirements:

Ability to:

  • Deal with a varying schedule

  • Concentrate on priority tasks with frequent interruptions 


  • Stands on feet the entire day
  • Walks through facilities frequently
  • Lifts heavy loads at times (50+ Pounds)
  • Drive vehicles for up to 4 hours at a time (Rarely) 

Additional/Miscellaneous/Special Requirements: 

  • Possession or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire a Class B (Passenger and Air-Brake endorsement) Commercial Driver’s License
  • Acceptable criminal history record and child protective services check upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment
  • Acceptable drug screen results upon hire and as regularly required by policy for position

Education and Experience:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with an associate’s degree in business or higher.
  • Experience with a detail-oriented environment
  • Experience working in a Labor Union environment preferred.
  • Supervisory and administrative experience preferred.
  • Extensive overall experience may be considered in lieu of advanced education.

Bus Operators (Full and Part Time)

Greater Lynchburg Transit Company has multiple openings for Full and Part Time Bus Operators. GLTC Bus Operators provide safe, efficient and on-time delivery of passengers by means of public transportation. Operators serve as “Ambassadors of Goodwill,” ensure safety first, abide by all traffic laws, and provide the highest quality of customer service. Bus Operators transport passengers including those with disabilities throughout the city and county on assigned routes.

Class B Commercial Drivers License (Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement) or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire is required.
An excellent driving record is required. All candidates must be able to work varying hours and days.  Paid on the job training is provided for these positions.

Salary for this Position starts at: $13.60 per hour (Top pay is $17.00 per hour)
Automatic increases in salary provided based on time employed.

Utility Person (Part Time)

GLTC is currently looking for part time utility persons. The position is responsible for building and grounds maintenance, servicing & refueling GLTC vehicles, minor repairs & scheduled maintenance on fluid levels, cleaning stops and shelters, knowledge of plumbing and carpentry, grass cutting, snow removal, bus cleaning, tree and hedge trimming.  A valid Drivers License is required as well as the possession or ability to obtain a Class B CDL.   Successful applicant must be able to work outside in temperature extremes (heat and cold), have the ability to lift/carry 100 lbs.

Salary for this Position is: $12.75 per hour
